LAser
Sun Damage & Pigmentation Laser
Years of sun exposure have a way of showing up when we least expect it — in the form of sun spots, age spots, uneven skin tone and diffuse discolouration that no amount of skincare seems to shift. At Rejuved, we use the Excel V+ by Cutera to precisely target and reduce the appearance of unwanted pigmentation, helping to restore a clearer, more even complexion.
HOW IT WORKS
The Excel V+ uses a precise wavelength of light that is selectively absorbed by melanin — the pigment responsible for sun spots and discolouration. The laser targets pigmented cells without damaging the surrounding skin. Over the following one to two weeks, treated pigment darkens, rises to the surface and naturally exfoliates away, revealing clearer skin beneath. Treatments are tailored by our Senior Therapists to suit your individual skin type, concern and history.
Treatment Information
-
Pigmentation laser may be considered for sun spots and age spots (lentigines), diffuse sun damage and uneven skin tone, flat brown lesions on the face and body, and dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN). This treatment is not indicated for melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — your clinician will assess your pigmentation at consultation and recommend the most appropriate treatment pathway for your skin.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks before treatment — this is especially important for pigmentation treatments
Avoid fake tan, spray tan and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior
Avoid skin irritants 2-3 days before your appointment — this includes retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic and salicylic acids, and astringents
Do not have chemical peels or facial treatments that may cause irritation in the lead-up to your appointment
Come to your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face
Hydrate well
-
Most patients describe a brief snapping or warming sensation with each pulse. The treatment is generally well tolerated.
-
In the 24-48 hours following treatment, treated pigment will darken — this is a normal and expected response, not a cause for concern. Over the following one to two weeks, the darkened pigment naturally rises to the surface and exfoliates away. Please do not pick at treated areas.
-
Some redness and mild swelling immediately after treatment is common and typically settles within a few hours. Pigment will visibly darken before it clears, which can take one to two weeks on the face and slightly longer on the body. Most patients manage this comfortably with good sun protection.
-
This depends on the type, depth and distribution of your pigmentation. Your clinician will discuss a personalised treatment plan at your consultation. Common treatment intervals are four weeks apart.
-
After your treatment:
Avoid sun exposure and apply a broad spectrum SPF daily — this is non-negotiable for pigmentation patients
Do not pick or rub at treated areas — allow pigment to exfoliate naturally
Avoid heat — saunas, hot tubs and steam rooms for 1-2 days
Avoid skin irritants for 2-3 days post treatment — retinol, acids, benzoyl peroxide and astringents
Redness, darkening of pigment and mild swelling are all normal and will resolve
Contact the clinic if you experience blistering or excessive irritation
Multiple treatments may be required for optimal results
